The Summer Institutes are two-week professional development workshops that model, teach, and encourage K-8 teachers to use inquiry-based, hands-on methods of teaching STEM subjects in their classrooms. The Institutes are held in seven regions throughout Massachusetts providing greater access to teachers. Generally, there are four or more participating partner institutions in each region with programs according to the theme for the Institutes.
All activities are linked to State Frameworks and include interdisciplinary connections. Participants choose to receive 60 PDPs or Graduate Credit and 90 PDPs for attendance at the Summer Institute and fall and spring callback sessions. Credit is awarded at the end of the summer session.
Participants may earn one of the following levels of Professional Development Points (PDPs):
Graduate credits: Participants who choose to receive graduate credits are required to complete the requirements for 90 PDPs and all materials are submitted for grading. Please refer to location pages for information on the participating colleges, cost, and credits offered.
